Steve takes pictures

The deer at Knowle could not have failed to notice the schoolboy attempting to stalk them. Whilst my chums on the Herne School trip munched packed lunches, I crept off through bushes, escaping teachers less than watchful eye to try and frame the beasts in the prism of my Dad’s box brownie. Twelve clicks later, with bramble scratched knees hanging from grubby shorts, I was heading back to my school friends with my imagination bouncing higher than the doe’s bob tails as they fled my clumsy intrusion. Later, the prints arrived to prove I had captured the best wildlife shots ever taken, or so my Mum said. Her critique of the grainy blurs was undoubtably biased, but I was entranced by photography, and although those images are now sadly lost, the magic persists.

Landscapes

Landscapes are everywhere. Surroundings that are everyday to one, are wondrous to another. If your door opens to mountains, then would you not gaze in awe at a desert or pastoral?

Travel Archive

Travel photography and copywriting has been an important part of my professional life, and these galleries represent a personal archive, rich in memories of fabulous people and places.

Architecture

My first dalliance with architecture was shooting literally thousands of holiday accommodations for travel brochures. Latterly I have revisited the field working for a construction client.

Small Stuff

Counterintuitively, shooting tiny stuff, or macro as one should refer to the genre, is not a simple matter. Although your subject may lie still, the physics of photography gets in the way.

Web Projects

Consulting on and creating websites for corporate customers is another arrow in my marketing quiver, and during the creative process unique imagery is often required.

Glass Plates

My wife Karen started collecting glass plate negatives. A handful grew into around a thousand or so which I am gradually scanning, gently restoring when needed and adding to the collection.

Commissions and Image Use

Most of my work has been carried out within website or print projects for my customers at Electric Farm, but I am also open to pure photo commissions (but not weddings, I really don't do weddings or kiddy parties or anything of a similar ilk).

I’m happy to take on interesting commercial projects, or indeed personal commissions. Based in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, I travel all over the South of England, shooting high-end digital and both colour and mono traditional film at 120 or 35mm as required. Additionally, if there is something in the archives you like the look of, I can provide online licenses or prints/wall art by arrangement. Costs vary and I have been know to let photos for personal use go for free.
